When it comes to the ‘wonders of the 21st century’, one of the most significant developments has been the allowance for greater global human interaction thanks to the Internet. Granted in one corner you have the people who are happy to tell the world what they have for breakfast every day, whist in another corner there are those who complain about the people who tell the world what they have for breakfast every day.

Yet throughout all the noise and erroneous clatter has seen the rise of a new generation of creative opportunities, one of which has allowed a person’s voice to be heard further and louder than ever before. Ironically unlike our forebears whose ‘voices’ could only be read in printed publications, this generation’s voice is their actual voice – and there are literally millions of them to listen too.

Although the concept of audio casting has been around for decades, it wasn’t until the growth and acceptance of MP3 digital audio did the podcast – a portmanteau of ‘iPod’ and ‘broadcast’ – come into being. Moreover, the exponential rise and global domination of podcasts has not come as a surprise because producing them requires little to no effort which is why they are so plentiful.

So is podcasting something you want to try out yourself? Well just like any creative endeavour it can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be depending on what you want to achieve, but the good news is that creating a new show is really easy which is why people find them so enjoyable to make.

So let’s give it a go…

In my next instalment, I’ll provide some insights on how to get your new podcast started.
